The Kind of Blog I Needed, But Couldn’t Find

Hi, I'm Emily — a first-year teacher, newly married, and learning how to balance homemaking, health, and healing in a very real, very human way.

When I first stepped into this season of life, I looked everywhere for advice on how to manage it all. But what I found instead was pressure. Pressure to be “that girl” every morning. Pressure to be the perfect housewife with a spotless house by 11 AM. Pressure to make countless appointments each week, be productive, and have endless amounts of energy to get it all done.

And honestly? That kind of life didn't fit.

It left me feeling shame, guilt, and like I was failing at something that was supposed to come naturally. I couldn’t get everything done like I was “supposed” to. I wanted this beautiful life that so many people seemed to have, but it just wasn’t working for me.

So, I created Soft & Rooted — not as a perfect highlight reel, but as a gentle space to grow.

A place where homemaking and expectations can be realistic. Where routines support my life instead of taking it over. Where wellness is about wholeness, not just checklists and supplements. Where you can relate to other women out there who are just trying their best in everyday life.

This blog is for anyone who:

  • Feels overwhelmed by Pinterest-perfect advice
  • Craves slowness, softness, and soul over hustle
  • Wants to root themselves in a life that actually feels like theirs

You’ll find cleaning rhythms that work in real homes, slow living routines that don’t ignore responsibilities, reflections on being a new wife and teacher, and encouragement to come back to your own pace.

This is the kind of blog I needed when I was just starting out — and maybe, just maybe, it's what you need too.

Thanks for being here. Make yourself at home.
